Typeface Design
Tantiedan Display
The assignment was to create an original font, so Tanteidan Display was born, a decorative display style typeface. My inspiration for this design came from origami, hence their geometric angles. I wanted the letters to emulate the origami-style folds on a piece of paper. The characters also have elements of a more traditional Serif font, Bely Display, with sharp edges and thin body components. The name Tanteidan is a Japanese word that roughly translates to detective group, a Japanese society devoted to studying origami folding techniques.
